Earth builds her first war fleet!

The greatest warships ever constructed in known space rise up one by one, soon dominating our skies. They strike fear into the hearts of every citizen and rebel colonist alike. Captain William Sparhawk, the very man who convinced the secretive Council to build this terrifying fleet, now has doubts about the project. What is their exact mission? How could anyone have built these huge ships so quickly? And, most puzzling of all, what's happening out at the isolated laboratory complex on Phobos, Mars' lopsided moon?

Learn the stunning truth in Star Carrier, the final book of the Lost Colonies Trilogy.

Space cruiser Capt. William Sparhawk lives in a universe that is surprisingly hostile to him, considering that he is a member of one of the Great Houses and is an honored officer of the Star Guard. But when earth's colonists physically adapted to new environments -- and changed in other ways as well -- the lost colonies became Beta and Stroj. Bad enough to need to send a fleet to deal with them, a fleet that included the first star carrier with thousands of star fighters.

The fleet also included Earth's own attempts at artificial adaptation, called Variants, and they are a troubling addition to the mix. I applaud the attempt to add another bizarre set of altered humans, but they didn't really click for me. The Council of oldsters secretly governs Earth, and Sparhawk has some issues with the means by which they do that. The Beta Zye is set aside early on in the story for no particularly good reason, leaving Sparhawk's most interesting and complicated relationship the one with Dr. Vogel, creator of the Variants. Sparhawk's crew is still with him, but they are not as interesting as they might be. As usual, the space battles are terrific.

Mr. Larson has called this a trilogy, with "Star Carrier" being the third book. However, the saga feels incomplete at this juncture so I anticipate another trilogy to move it forward. Presumably the lost colonies will be obliged to unite against a truly alien threat, and their differences should make for some sparks. Whether the Variants will continue remains to be seen, but I for one would not be sorry to see them disappear.

Star Carrier Lost Colonies Book 3 (Audible Audio Edition) B V Larson Edoardo Ballerini Audible Studios Books Reviews

Take some, “Dr. Who” (K-9 is now K-19); throw-in a few heaping spoonfuls of Star Trek’s, “ Captain Kirk”; and, mix-in a few good helpings of, “Red Dwarf”, and you got yourself a wild-ride trilogy; featuring a captain with an impressive moral compass, dashing good looks, princely mannerisms, a great tactician with a sense of humor, civility and seriousness.

A stupendous trilogy!

More please!
I really liked the Lost Colonies Trilogy. Normally Larson writes series that go on for a very long time. By telling this whole story in a trilogy I think it forced Larson to really reduce it to the important elements, and focus on better storytelling.

The first book really just introduces you to the universe and the characters within. The second book explores what is going on behind the scenes. And the this book resolves everything in a very satisfactory manner.
Is a good follow up and greatly expands the story more than I thought it would. Went into details of how all the characters got to be where they are and why. Sparhawk's role has greatly changed and grown. He has grown into a stand up guy and seems to have learned the real responsibility of his position and that it entails much more than he ever thought it would.
Captain Sparhawk continues to explore space for the citizens of earth. He finds great destruction at each colony be finds. This has been caused by a group of ships from earth but manned by Variants. When he and 3ships from Beta and captained by Aplhas, reached the Stroj home world they enter the battle. Read on to learn the outcome. Further their is a confrontation with the Council of ancients. Where does this leave humanity?

To find out, read on. This will be most enjoyed if you have read the first 2 books of the trilogy.
This third book of the trilogy completes the story of tech run amok. Given today's headlines this is especially timely. Ironic how often our reality is predicted by science fiction. Risk taking individual heroes seize the field of battle more than once. The power hungry try everything to stop them. As with the first two in the series the characters are a bit over top but not too much. I really like the underlying statement running through this series - be careful with what you ask for. The best technology can and will be used to control and subvert humanity. But so long as the strong individual rises to the occasion the controllers will fail. So a fun series to read.
I really like a lot of what Larson writes. Sometimes writers like to have these huge insurmountable scenarios that just couldn't exist in and reality and then there solved by gross use our deux ex Machina but Larson doesn't do this. His characters are fully fleshed out and make reasonable decisions for there character and they continue to act in kind. I hate spoilers so I won't add any but I think the main character was true to form from word one till the last page fell. Further, the main character made Congress that I believe in and feel if I were in his position I would have also made, well I like to think I would; to be honest I have not been tested in that regard.
In my review of the second book of this trilogy I mentioned that the story was far too massive for a mere trilogy. I rescind my statement. I am left to wonder though.

***Spoilers Below***

Was it always Director Vogel's intention to overthrow the oldsters from their shadowy perch and install himself as the new dictator of Earth? After all, it was his creation that allowed Earth to build up a warfleet overnight. Not only build the fleet but man it when the time was right. If the digital subscription services like , Hulu and Netflix were smart then they would be mining for books such as this to turn into miniseries. Dare I say they would even play well on the big screen. Take some of the focus off the big names in sci fi like Star Trek and Star Wars. All and all, a total pleasure to read.
